What is the difference between Hong Kong food and American food ?
Fast food is the most common food in US, right?
And I think Hong Kong have a lot of food from different countries.
I want to know the difference between them.THX~
Hong Kong, being part of China, has mostly Chinese food - and no, I'm not talking about the stuff you find at most American restaurants, either. However due to being a British colony for so long, also offers some Western (European) style food, like pork chops, spaghetti, etc. But these are slightly altered, just as most Chinese restaurants in America serve Americanized Chinese food, these places in Hong Kong server Hong Kong-style Western food. A good example would be the "hamburger steak" which is essentially a Salisbury steak, but then topped with other types of sauces besides plain boring brown gravy and mashed potatoes. One favorite of mine is the hamburger steak with pepper sauce and spaghetti.
Perhaps one of Hong Kong's most famous food is Dim Sum, which is a bunch of small appetizer type dumplings, pastries and other items. It's sort of like Chinese style tapas (Spanish). You go for Dim Sum with your friends and family so you can try a lot of different dishes. Servers pushing carts of various food circulate through the restaurant. If you want something, just gesture to it, and the server places a plate on your table then stamp your bill so they know how much to charge you later. Some Dim Sum dishes may be familiar - like pot stickers, or a plate of noodles. Others incorporate familiar items in new ways, like fried dumplings stuffed with chopped shrimp. Still others may seem downright scary like boiled chicken feet...which tastes like chicken, surprisingly but may freak out first time visitors.
