Muse could technically be considered a Pop band because they play Rock and Rock is part of the "folk" tradition, rather than the "academic" tradition (the "academic tradition" being essentially Classical and Jazz music...stuff you have to go to school to learn how to play).

The discipline of "classical" is so expansive that it would really be hard for me to recommend something. I'd say go with one of the big names: Beethoven, Mozart, etc. Beethoven's 9th Symphony is supposed to be the greatest tonal piece ever recorded, so maybe go with that?

Good luck. If you need any more help just message me.
